Twenty-two years of building things that last
We started in 2004 writing SQL-powered systems, and we're still here – now building with AI. Along the way we've made transport systems for national operations, platforms that ran whole industries and products of our own. This is the short version.
Eight milestones that shaped us
Not a highlight reel – the turns that actually changed what we do. Scroll through.
Why we're still here
"Try your best to work yourself out of a job."
I started Brains because I had developed a real love for creating things that made a difference – solving business problems, automating what could be automated and building quality systems with excellence and care. But behind every business problem are people, and that has always mattered to me. The best solutions don't just make a business work better – they make someone's work simpler, less frustrating and more meaningful.
Early in my career, one of my mentors taught me to "try your best to work yourself out of a job." That idea has stayed with me for more than 22 years. Build something properly. Make it robust. Solve the real problem. Leave the business better than you found it. I think that philosophy is part of why some of the systems we built more than 2 decades ago are still running today, and why some of the relationships we have with clients are even older than Brains itself.
As we sit here today, I'm probably more excited about what lies ahead for Brains than I've ever been. We're entering a new phase, technology is opening doors that simply weren't possible before, and every day I see new potential in what we can create and how we can help the businesses and people we work with.
Clients who never left
Anyone can claim longevity. These are the people who've lived it with us – in their own words.
Twenty-two years in. Let's build the next thing.
Whatever you're picturing, chances are we've built something like it before – and we'll get this one into production too.
